In Lao Cai Province there will be activities associated with the programme, such as Upper Temple Festival in February, “In the clouds” Festival in Sapa in late April and early May, a traditional horse race in Bac Ha in June, and “conquering Fanxipan Mountain” programme and a tourism festival in Lao Cai City in October.

Yen Bai Province will host activities, including the Dong Cuong Temple Festival in February, Dai Cai-Luc Yen Temple Festival in March, a festival to mark the 110th anniversary of Yen Bai Province, and Muong Lo culture and tourism week in April.

Phu Tho Province will organize the “Return to the roots” programme with a series of festivals in villages, the Hung Temple Festival in April, and many other fairs and exhibitions.

One of the prominent events is a competition to plant a “1000 years of Thang Long- Hanoi” flag on Fanxipan Mountain in October as part of the activities to mark the 1,000th anniversary of the capital city.

The opening ceremony of the programme will be held on February 27, 2010 in Lao Cai City.
